Yellow tea was once a “medicinal tea”: the Ming Dynasty’s “Compendium of Materia Medica” records that yellow tea “invigorates the spleen and aids digestion” and is used to treat food accumulation. Yellow tea contains natural digestive enzymes, and the闷黄 (menhuang, yellowing by steaming) process produces microorganisms, promotes protein decomposition, and aids digestion.
